NTC Acquires Tri State Freight Shuttle
NTC, Nebraska
Transport Co., Inc., headquartered in Gering, Nebraska, has
announced the acquisition of Tri State Freight Shuttle located in
Sioux Falls South Dakota.
NTC is a
truckload, and less than truckload carrier (LTL) with 14 terminals
located in Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Colorado,
Wyoming and South Dakota.
Tri State
Freight Shuttle, also an LTL carrier, has terminals in Minneapolis,
Sioux Falls and Omaha Nebraska, and serves a three state area of
Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
According to
Brent Holliday, owner of NTC, “This acquisition, allows us to extend
our service area, quickly and efficiently, by the purchase of
another family owned business, with great service and high standards
of customer service. It not only offers us the opportunity to expand
service in our core area, but it allows our customers to now ship
with NTC direct to Minnesota points, such as Minneapolis. It opens a
new area for us, bringing to 11, the number of states that NTC
serves direct for its customers.
In addition,
Tri States’ employee base, much like ours, consists of hard working
professionals that understand the needs of their customers, and what
it takes to not just “deliver” freight, but to offer a quality
product in the transportation of the goods their customers entrust
to them. Tri State’s ownership and management are committed to being
a responsible asset to the customers, and communities they serve.”
Tri State
Freight Shuttle owner, Chad Koopsma stated “The merger of our two
companies will solidify our presence in the regional market & allow
us to grow in ways that we could not do on our own. NTC has the same
beliefs and core values in business and we are proud to become part
of such a quality organization”.
NTC will
combine the two companies’ terminals in Omaha, and Sioux Falls, and
maintain the terminal presently operated by Tri State in
Minneapolis. In addition, employees of Tri State Freight Shuttle
will be retained by NTC, and will bring the total number of NTC
employees to 325.
NTC has been a family-owned
regional LTL carrier since 1973, and has served the contiguous 48
states and parts of Canada through its truckload division since

NTC opens new Omaha
terminal
In a move expected to
improve customer service throughout its entire Midwestern service
area, NTC has opened a new terminal in Omaha.
The regional freight
carrier opened its new 40-door terminal at 12021 Roberts Road in
LaVista Monday, June 19, replacing its existing terminal in Omaha.
“With the increasing
business we’ve seen here at NTC, we felt this project was necessary
in order to meet the needs of our customers,” NTC President Brent
Holliday said. “We’ve been in a position to add jobs at our Omaha
location, and with that comes a need for more space.”
A portion of the funding
for the facility comes from an LB775 grant from the State of
Nebraska.
Nebraska Governor Dave
Heineman said he is confident that the commitment NTC has shown to
expand within the state will result in a relationship that is
beneficial for the company and the State.
"I want to offer my congratulations to
NTC on the decision to expand in the eastern part of our state,”
Gov. Heineman said. “The greater Omaha metro area has much to offer
companies looking to grow, and I have no doubt this venture will be
a success. When it comes to expanding economic vitality for our
entire state, we are working to capitalize on our existing resources
to help boost business development and transportation and
logistics-based companies are high on our list. I'm very pleased the
state was able to extend incentives to help encourage this latest
expansion, and want to extend my thanks to NTC for their commitment
to creating good quality jobs here in Nebraska."
Holliday said the hard
work and commitment of the company’s employees has been a major
factor in NTC’s ability to expand its service area and add new
facilities.
“We’re pleased with the
growth we’ve seen as a company, but we see it as a reflection of the
communities we’re located in,” Holliday said. “Our ability to
increase the amount of freight we haul is based upon the increase in
the number of businesses and their production in the cities we
serve. The expansion we’re seeing at NTC is directly related to the
strong economies we see, not only in the Omaha area, but in the
other locations we serve, from Denver, through Nebraska and beyond.”
The new terminal will
improve efficiencies in the Omaha operation, in turn that hub
location will be in position to better distribute freight to NTC’s
12 terminal locations.
“The location of the new
terminal gives us better access to Interstate 80 in addition to
providing our employees with the space they need in order to more
effectively move freight for our customers,” Holliday said.
NTC completed a new
terminal in Sidney in 2004 and has expanded its service area to
include Norfolk, Kansas City, Chicago and St. Louis over the past
two years.
“The NTC project is yet
another great project to locate in Sarpy County, the fastest growing
county in Nebraska”, said Toby Churchill, Executive Director, Sarpy
County Economic Development Corporation. “This newly expanded
facility provides a location with easy access to Interstate 80, so
the company can efficiently transport the client’s products”.
Paul Reed Construction of
Scottsbluff is managing the project and Anderson Construction of
Council Bluffs, Iowa, is doing the work on the new terminal.

NTC trailers promote
Western Nebraska tourism
Three NTC trailers with paint schemes to promote tourism
are on the road.
The
NTC trailers bear images of Western Nebraska along with contact
information to help advertise for a variety of tourism opportunities
in the area.
The
first trailer featured a scene from the Scotts Bluff National
Monument and the Gering Civic Center and arrived in Gering Thursday.
The other two trailers completed feature images from the Gering Golf Course and the Robidoux RV
Park. The trailer layout designs were developed by Jeana Allen of
Mitchell with some of the images used being donated by Spectrum
Photographics. The “wraps” are installed by Jane Saltzman and the
employees of Only Pro in Omaha at work space used in cooperation
with Mark Johnson of Wicks Truck Tailer.
The
project is funded by the City of Gering and NTC is donating the
trailer space.
“What it amounts to for local tourism is a 53-foot rolling billboard
that will be seen statewide as our drivers deliver freight,” NTC
President Brent Holliday said. “We’ll make sure each of the trailers
is sent to our different terminals to ensure that the message gets
out there as much as we can.
“We
saw this as a great opportunity to partner with local tourism to
help bring more visitors and the revenue that comes with them to
Western Nebraska. We’re proud that Gering is where NTC calls home,
so we’re excited to be able to help let people in other parts of the
state know what we have here.”
Gering Mayor Starr Lehl said having the trailers rolling down the
Interstate promoting local tourism is a “phoenomenal” opportunity
for the city.
“We
really want to thank NTC for the vision and the foresight they have
shown in accepting this idea that the City of Gering came up with
for promoting tourism in our community,” Lehl said. “It’s a
wonderful opportunity for us to work together and get the message
out about the great things we have to offer here in our community.”
Gering City Administrator Gary Rimington started the process by
talking with Holliday about the possibilities for working together.
“Last fall when traveling down
Interstate 80, I passed a semi trailer advertising chicken,”
Rimington said. “I thought if private corporations are advertising
on trailers why can’t a municipality do the same? Since NTC was
located in Gering and the community had a reputation for thinking
outside the box, I thought the idea was worth pursuing. With the
gracious help of NTC, the Gering Convention and Visitors Bureau
and the City of Gering Keno Fund Committee, we launched Gering’s
rolling billboard program to advertise some of our community’s best
attractions.”
“These trailers are big, beautiful
and will carry a wonderful message to residents all across Nebraska
and the Colorado Front Range looking for a great weekend escape,”
Rimington said. “Whether you are looking for great inexpensive golf,
a top notch business convention facility or a quiet scenic location
to park your R.V., these rolling billboards will make you think
twice about Western Nebraska.”

Scottsbluff Special Olympics
Nebraska Transport
Company made a $500 donation on behalf of its employees to the
Scotts Bluff County Special Olympics last week.
The donation
marked the fourth year Nebraska Transport Company has donated the
funds. Funds for the donation are raised through a prize drawing at
NTC’s annual employee banquet. The donation is made through the
Nebraska State Patrol. The Nebraska State Patrol kicks off the
annual Torch Run each year, which marks the beginning of the state
games.
“We appreciate the
community support that businesses like Nebraska Transport Company
give to the Special Olympics. It’s businesses like this that make
this program Successful,” said Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Chuck
Elley.
Mark McCarthy,
marketing director at NTC said, “this project is something we, as a
company, decided was important. It is something our employees always
get behind.”
Larry Lacy, a
parent volunteer with the Special Olympics program, said the
donation helps fund travel costs for the different competitions
participants attend in Chadron, Sidney, Ogallala and North Platte.
The donation is a big help, he said.
